Will we know people when we get to heaven?

Recently we celebrated Transfiguration Sunday. The day that Jesus was "transfigured" or "changed in form" and his disciples saw him not just as a human being, but now shining in all his divine glory as the true God that he also is. Three of Jesus’ disciples - Peter and James and John - were given a glimpse of life in heaven that day. And they not only saw Jesus, whom they knew, they also saw Moses and Elijah, whom they had only heard and read about. In this glimpse of heaven, they recognized that the two men standing with Jesus were Moses and Elijah - even though they had never seen them and most likely had never seen pictures of them.

While the Bible never point-blank tells us that we will recognize people when we get to heaven, from passages like the transfiguration account it is implied that we will recognize, not only those we knew on earth, but everyone else there as well.

Of course the greatest part of all will be meeting, face-to-face,

the one whose death and resurrection purchased our entrance to heaven: Jesus Christ!

Now we know him by faith. Then we will know him by sight!

Thanks for asking,
Pastor Dave
